It’s the weekend and the fourth issue of JWL for the new year. We have one more week and we’ll be kissing January goodbye.
Anyone visited the new White House website? Our President’s weekly address is there along with a number of features about this presidency including the ability to email him (although I seriously doubt it goes directly to his Blackberry). There is an interesting link called WhiteHouse 101 you’ll find when you click About the White House or click into any page on the site. In it, you’ll find information about our past presidents, first pets, and fun facts. Maybe that will take our minds off some of the other things going on in Washington right now (don’t get me started on the proposed closing of Guantanamo or selecting Timothy Geithner to head the Treasury department … he’s the one who failed to pay payroll taxes he owed while working for the International Monetary Fund). http://www.whitehouse.gov
I am spending a significant amount of time reading about the newest operating system Windows has been working on. Windows 7, already in beta release has been given the nod by a large number of testers and critics who are saying that, if you were disappointed with Vista, you’re going to like Windows 7. The system is more stable and more compatible with other software according to Edward Baig of USA Today. Here’s his take on the beta version: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/edwardbaig/2009-01-21-windows-7-beta_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip
A new feature for Google webmail users … now you can watch YouTube videos from inside Gmail chats. When someone sends you a YouTube link, you’ll now get a thumbnail preview of the video. Click play and another box will open up inside of Gmail that streams it. For additional options like full screen mode, embedding, or adding the video to your favorites, you’ll still need to click over to YouTube. http://www.gmail.com
And speaking of Youtube, Google has officially enabled High Quality in embedded videos. The new embedded player includes a little HQ button in the expandable menu, which is absent from Youtube’s on-site player. Seems they were ready for the increased traffic that will certainly result from the huge amount of embedded high-quality videos to come. http://www.YouTube.com
Video-capable cellphone users, Vuclip offers free mobile video search. Convert, download, and watch videos, TV, movies, and listen to music on your cell phone for free. http://www.vuclip.com/
The Super Mario Brothers game was one of those earlier games I played with my kids. Of course, my son would play it until he figured it out, leaving me in the dust. Now, D-arcade has a Super Mario Nintendo game with the option to play as either Mario or Luigi. What do you think, Greg … got game? http://www.d-arcade.com/game/1914/Flash_Mario_Bros/
A member of the United States Senate, known for his hot temper and acid tongue, exploded one day in mid-session and began to shout, “Half of this Senate is made up of cowards and corrupt politicians!”
All the other Senators demanded that the angry member withdraw his statement, or be removed from the remainder of the session.
After a long pause, the angry member acquiesced. “OK,” he said, “I withdraw what I said. Half of this Senate is NOT made up of cowards and corrupt politicians!”
A bus station is where a bus stops.
A train station is where a train stops.
On my desk, I have a work station.
A golfer hit his drive on the first hole 300 yards right down the middle. When it came down, however, it hit a sprinkler and the ball went sideways into the woods. He was angry, but he went into the woods and hit a very hard 2 iron which hit a tree and bounced back straight at him. It hit him in the temple and killed him.
He was at the Pearly Gates and St. Peter looked at the big book and said, “I see you were a golfer, is that correct?”
“Yes, I am,” he replied.
St. Peter then said, “Do you hit the ball a long way?”
The golfer replied, “You bet. After all, I got here in 2, didn’t I?”
A psychologist is selling a video that teaches you how to test your dog’s IQ.
Here’s how it works:
When you spend $39.95 to see this video, it proves your dog is smarter than you.
That’s it for this weekend, JWL readers … have a great weekend and may God continue to bless you and keep you safe.
