Jim’s WebLetter for 12/15/12

Hi-ya Letter readers!

The Digital Goddess, Kim Komando reported this week that hackers have found an exploit in all versions of Internet Explorer that lets them see your mouse’s movements – even if you’re not using the browser. Avoid using Internet Explorer until Microsoft launches a fix. She offers links to browsers that are considered safer to use …

Youleplay is a website with a searchable database of Christmas music, which has all be categorised by genre for easy perusal. With more than 10,000 songs from over a hundred artists and bands there’s certainly no shortage of choice. With an emphasis on discovery, YulePlay is designed to help you discover new Christmas music you might not have heard before – perfect if you’re tired of the same old worn out top 40 hits. The service is powered by YouTube and uses an intelligent player and playlist system that means you can keep browsing the site without interrupting your listening. Create playlists that are shareable with friends, or optionally choose from an existing playlist curated by the website’s creators themselves. There’s a lot to choose from, and if you love Christmas music then it doesn’t get much better than this. http://yuleplay.com/

If you have ever used Microsoft Publisher, you know it saves your layouts in the PUB file format by default. This file format is not widely supported and you usually cannot share it with friends who do not have Publisher installed. Fortunately, there is a tool that solves this sharing problem by converting the PUB files into PDF; this tool is called Publisher to PDF Free Online. That’s right, upload the .pub file, click the convert button and download the new file. http://www.publishertopdf.com/

The next two sites are easily run on any computer or mobile other than those like iPad and iPhone that don’t read Flash programs.

If you work in a stressful environment, taking a well-deserved break can be just what you need to refocus on your task. Take a moment and bring up Calm.com, turn on your sound, enlarge the browser to full screen, take a deep breath, exhale and enjoy a serene setting. http://www.calm.com

Last today, I always like to find websites that have a useful tool on them. How about one that allows you to upload a music file, edit it and download it as an mp3? Oh, and if you want to convert a YouTube video to audio file, or a ringtone … all done here at MP3Cut.net. http://www.mp3cut.net

We recently had a guest speaker at our church. He is from India, part of an organization that our church supports.
Before he started his sermon, he asked if anyone had called any customer support numbers recently.
When several people in the congregation raised their hands, he said, “That’s good. That means you won’t have too much trouble understanding my accent.”
(Thanks, Charlie)
Before leaving home with our family for the drive from Maine to Disney World in Florida, the children were warned that it was a long trip and no one was to ask, “How much farther is it?” or “When will we arrive?” The journey was remarkably question-free until 9 a.m. on the third day, when the youngest of the children sighed, “Will I still be five when we get there?”
(Thanks, Karen)
That’s what I have for you this week … make it a good weekend friends, and until next, may God bless you and keep you safe.
