Jim’s WebLetter for 4/13/13

Hi-ya WebFolks!

Saturday morning and I’m dashing this off before getting busy with the day’s activities. If you own a PC, use Facebook, Chrome or a Smartphone, this JWL is for you …

For millions of us, an automatic download to our Windows PC systems from Microsoft is nothing new. But there is something different about this update, this patch on “Patch Tuesday”. Microsoft is now getting the word out for us to remove the patch and wait for an update. Why? It seems that there is a flaw in the update that has caused crashes in the system in which it is installed. If you have noticed a problem with your PC, Kim Komando has provided instructions to uninstall the patch … http://www.komando.com/tips/index.aspx?id=14330

You probably have heard about the new system from Facebook called Home for Android phones. If you are a fanatic of Facebook, you will want to look into using the system on your phone, or purchase a phone with it installed. Home is downloadable on the Google Play Store for 6 models of Android phones. Get details about it and the phones that can run it from Google … https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.home

If you use Google’s Chrome browser, check out DragDis, a Chrome extension that allows you to save various elements of web content as quickly as you view it, and it does this using one simple action – by dragging it and saving it. After installing DragDis, you can literally drag any web element to a pop-in side bar and save it for later. Photos, videos, links, marked text – anything. Then categorize your saves using designated folders. After saving items, you can view them using a Pinterest-like pinboard. https://www.dragdis.com/

Smartphone users, here’s an app for you. Repair Pal, a free app for iPhone and Android phones for whenever your car needs regular repairs, you’ve had a break down, or are in an emergency situation. RepairPal can find a mechanic or repair shop in the area and track your repair progress. Also important, it will give you an estimate on the cost of repairs, so you know how much you should pay. http://itunes.apple.com/app/repairpal-auto-repair-expert/id300996215

A mother’s four-year-old daughter was attending her first performance of the Ice Capades. She was so mesmerized that she wouldn’t budge from her seat even during intermission, watching the activity while the ice was cleaned.
At the end of the show, she exclaimed, “I know what I want to be when I grow up!”
The mother envisioned her on the ice in another 15 years, starring in the Ice Capades.
She was brought back to earth when the daughter continued, “I want to be a zamboni driver!”
(thanks, Reggie)
The mother was having difficulty gulping down the birthday cake her young son had made for her as a surprise.
When she was finished, he happily exclaimed, “I’m so glad you like it, Mommy. There should have been 32 candles on the cake, but they were all gone when I took it out of the oven.”
(thanks, Doc)
Have a great weekend friends, and until next weekend, may God bless you and keep you safe.
