Word was released this week that some models of Lenovo laptop computers were sold with spyware installed. The irony of it, the computers also came with McAfee antivirus software installed. The spyware is named Superfish and is primarily use to monitor any web surfing activity. And speaking of Microsoft, their Bing search engine has just been upgraded with a feature that allows the user to book hotels and order food from search results. Sounds like Priceline to me. If you have young people in your family, mark your calendar for Monday in the U.S. on Google Play as Google releases a new YouTube application for the 13 and younger. YouTube Kids will provide simple search buttons pulling up age-appropriate content. For example, type in “trains” and you’re sure to get a few Thomas the Tank Engine videos as well as a history of the American railroad. And if a child types in an inappropriate word by accident, a simple “Try again” message pops up. And this just in, if you own a Dropbox account, Microsoft wants you to know they have an offer you shouldn’t refuse. Move all your photos, videos and documents over to their OneDrive cloud and they’ll give you 100GB of storage free for a year. I use OneDrive for photo storage and love the 25GB of storage MS offered just because I agreed to store any future photos taken with my iPad. This new offer may be a way to lure Dropbox users, but the service and tools offered for free are worth it. Waiting in a lay by ready to catch speeding drivers, a Police Officer sees a car puttering along the A22 at well under the 30 mile per hour limit. Says he to himself: “This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!” So he turns on his twos and blues and pulls the driver over. Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies, two in the front seats and three in the back…wide eyed and white as ghosts. The driver, obviously confused, says to him “Officer, I don’t understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?” “Ma’am,” the officer replies, “you weren’t speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers.” “Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly, twenty-two miles an hour!” ……the old woman says a bit proudly. The Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle explains to her that A22 is the road number, not the speed limit. A bit embarrassed, the woman grins and thanks the officer for pointing out her error. “But before I let you go, Ma’am, I have to ask, is everyone in this car OK? These women seem awfully shaken, and they
haven’t made a sound this whole time,” the officer asks. “Oh, they’ll be all right in a minute officer. We’ve just come off the A120.”
