Hi-ya Web-connected people!

It’s another week of Web-fused wonders as we take a look at tech things that connect us to the world. You ready?

If you own a Yahoo or Microsoft email address, you now can use Google Gmail and it’s many features with the new “Gmailify” for non-Gmail accounts. That means you’ll not only be able to check your @Yahoo.com, @Hotmail.com, or @Outlook.com email within Gmail’s mobile application, but you can also manage those accounts as if those emails were hosted on Google’s own servers. This makes sense for people who would like to choose Gmail for its advanced feature set, but are stuck with a different email and don’t want to go through the hassles involved with changing their email address. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/gmailify-how-add-gmail-features-your-outlook-hotmail-yahoo-email-accounts-1544631

Is Yahoo for sale? The company announced on Friday the formation of “a Strategic Review Committee of independent directors” to explore “strategic alternatives.” In other words, Yahoo has hired bankers and lawyers to field offers that can be presented to the company’s board of directors. A sale of Yahoo would follow on the purchase of another big first-generation Internet company that had fallen from grace … AOL. Yahoo and its CEO Marissa Mayer have faced increasing pressure from investors to sell what has been referred to as its “core assets” but really just means its actual business. In my mind, if and when the company is sold, Marissa needs to hang it up and go home to her babies (she has three). After four years at the helm, the ship has sailed without her. http://recode.net/2016/02/02/yahoo-for-sale-says-yahoo-finally-admitting-the-obvious-also-q4-results/

This week, Time magazine included a story about the Amazon Echo. Over the past few months since its release, Amazon has been working to make this computer in a cone a must-have product. Right up front, if you have an Amazon Prime account, Echo will be the go-to device for everything from listening to music, to reordering items from the Amazon Store. Then there are great features like Alexa answering your questions for the nearest pharmacy or mechanic and traffic reports before heading out to work or school. If you’re considering buying one, get an “Ultimate Guide” to Amazon Echo, by clicking http://time.com/4227833/amazon-echo-user-guide/

Not everyone finds a use for all the products Google has to offer. But to date hundreds of thousands of people have used Google Translate in their daily lives to communicate with business leads and take vacations in foreign lands. And the program that began 10 years ago has grown into one with more than 100 different languages. Want to learn a new language? Include Google Translate in your educational process. http://www.engadget.com/2016/02/18/google-translate-adds-13-languages/

Sling TV update, the iPad Air 3 due out, and must-haves for business travelers, in this week’s iTab Magazine. http://iTab.jimonline.com
