Jim’s WebLetter for 4/9/16

Hi-ya Webfriends!

This week, Facebook made strides in its video streaming app that makes it easy to use and features to enhance the whole experience. First, if you haven’t heard of it, Facebook created live streaming using their mobile application on both iPhone and iPad and on Android powered devices. To activate it, hit your Status link and click the little circle icon. A simple Facebook help page gives you step by step instructions … https://www.facebook.com/help/564975656994107

This week, they added some features to streaming that other streaming programs like Periscope have. CNET’s Bridget Carey demonstrated the newest video add-ons to enhance streaming to your Facebook friends. http://www.newsjs.com/url.php?p=http://www.cnet.com/videos/facebook-perks-up-live-video-by-copying-ideas-from-other-apps/ I took the liberty of using the live stream feature and recorded the report. And Facebook is reaching beyond the norm to give aid to visually impaired users. Using artificial intelligence and coding, Facebook’s object recognition technology identifies what’s in a photo then using speech technology explains the image to the user. The company says it took 10 months to develop the feature to its current stage. Currently it’s only available in the iPhone and iPad app. http://thenextweb.com/facebook/2016/04/05/facebooks-ios-app-now-uses-ai-help-blind-see-photos/

Google has posted an addition to its search engine which can be a useful tool when teaching young children about sounds animals make. http://www.technmain.com/2016/04/05/google-search-makes-it-easier-to-teach-animal-sounds-to-kids/

And when’s the last time you wanted to share a photo with someone and found it slow and cumbersome? FotoSwipe is an extremely easy-to-use app that requires no guesswork or setup to share photos and videos between Android and iOS devices. It works over Wi-Fi and cellular data and makes use of your location data for getting the job done. You can also connect mobile device with PC by going to the website … http://www.FotoSwipe.com
