Hi-ya Summer Olympians and non-morning people!

Time to wake up and watch the action! OK, I understand that morning hours are not optimal for some of you, especially on Saturdays when sleeping in is number one on your list of things to do this weekend. But check out some things I discovered this week in today’s WebLetter …

I’ve been watching the Summer Olympics in Rio and have enjoyed the majority of the time watching the prerecorded programming from NBC during Prime Time coverage of the 31st Olympiad, which has had some upsets, some major athletic accomplishments and at least one international news story of a gold medalist who lied about being mugged on the streets of Rio (way to go, Ryan).

But the Internet has been buzzing with online streaming of the events, too. TV ratings have shown fewer viewers this year over the games of four years ago, while internet views have increased. According to Nielsen, the ratings people, the first 10 days of competition at the 2016 Olympics produced more than 2 billion minutes (33 million hours) of online viewership – up from the 1.46 billion minutes streamed of the entire 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. With NBC averaging more than 180 million minutes of online viewership per day, this last week of the Olympics could push it past three billion minutes (50 million hours) streamed. If you’d like to watch too, here’s the online schedule … http://www.nbcolympics.com/live-stream-schedule

ICANN stays in America, but America is relinquishing controls? That was my thought when, two years ago, the determination was made that the domain name governing committee, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers – a non-profit organization, would be “turned over” to the rest of the world. But although other countries have more say in how domain names are distributed, it’s still left to the organization to make the final determination. The BBC reported on the changeover, which is due to happen in October of this year, but ICANN will stay in their headquarters in Los Angeles. It’s like the United Nations. They are available to the world, but is housed in America. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-37114313

Phone and tablet users … here’s a listing of Apps you can use if you’re not a morning person. Frankly, I’ve been a morning person for years and, although there are days I would like to sleep in, I prefer being up early and getting an early start to my day. I have been one who worked late at night, tho’ and understand where non-morning people are coming from. Check out Morning planner and the Pureple Outfit Planner in particular. You’re welcome. http://mashable.com/2016/08/16/apps-for-non-morning-people/#hXiP1aQ2Rgq8

+++++++++++++++++++++++
That’s it this week. Have a great weekend watching the Olympics or just being an Olympian yourself, and may God bless you and keep you safe.

c-ya!
Jim
