Jim’s WebLetter for 5/27/17

Hi-ya friends and Windows users!

Today, let me tell you about what I discovered about the Windows 10 operating system that you may not have known. Why? Because, despite what the Apple users will tell you, there are still more PC people in the world and they use Windows. And the newest operating system has been making some rather important changes recently.

For instance, previously I wrote about a massive attack that infected PC computers in several countries causing them to be rendered ineffective unless a ransom was paid, dubbed ransomware. But did you know it was computers running the old Windows 7 that were involved? Windows 10 operators were protected. https://www.dailydot.com/debug/wannacry-ransomware-malware-attack-windows-7/

Microsoft has been hard at work expanding the usefulness of the newest operating system. As it turns out, there are all sorts of tricks hidden beneath the surface that is Windows 10. All it takes is a little digging. So, let’s fire up your computer because I have a listing of the top 10 hidden features. (By the way, if you missed the chance to upgrade to Win10 last year, there is still an open ‘window’ of opportunity … get the pun? I’ll tell you about that in a moment). The folks over at PC Magazine did the work to uncover these little gems … http://www.pcmag.com/feature/347136/hidden-tricks-inside-windows-10

On the subject of upgrading to Windows 10 for free … over at ZDNet, Ed Bott tried updating an older Windows 7 system to Windows 10 and discovered the entire process still works perfectly. The solution is as simple as visiting Microsoft’s “Download Windows 10” page, grabbing a copy of the Windows 10 OS, and then installing it as an upgrade to an existing installation of Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1. Microsoft may have officially ended it’s upgrade program in June of last year, but it’s leaving the capability in place for anyone who still would like to upgrade. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

Finally this week, it’s Memorial Day weekend. Someone once said that literally every American family with heritage in this great country has been affected by the wars we have been involved in over the years. Family members who served, friends of family members … every family knows someone who served this country when we were called upon.

For that reason, let’s pause and give thanks. Thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I thank my relatives who fought in every war and conflict since before this became a great nation. For those who fought in the Revolutionary War, the War between the States, for whom Memorial Day was founded. In the Bible, John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends”.
That’s it this week. Have a great weekend and may God bless you and keep you safe.
