Hi-ya Friends!

There are two stories I came across this week that really got my attention. They both deal with how the World Wide Web has changed just in the last few years.

Taking the WayBack machine to travel back into time, I remember when Google and then Facebook came into existence and shortly thereafter began a program of advertising to make money to build and sustain the costs of running an enterprise. Based on banner advertising and PPC, or pay-per-click revenue, these two early startups began pulling in revenue.

If ever you needed proof that they have been successful in their money generating quest, a report just released in Inc Magazine is entitled, “Google and Facebook Now Make More From Ads Than Every Newspaper, Magazine and Radio Network in the World Combined”.

Did that sink in?

Just two companies now bring in more revenue than every publication and network of radio stations around the world, COMBINED.

What kind of money are we talking?

According to Inc Magazine’s research, Google is on track to collect $80.8 billion. Facebook will rake in more than $36 billion. THIS YEAR.

That comes to 83% of all the ad dollars worldwide.

Even media sources are using the Web to reach out. Today, most every radio, newspaper and TV station has a Web presence. But the winners are the ones who knew what to do from the beginning and went after it. https://www.inc.com/bill-murphy-jr/google-and-facebook-now-make-more-from-ads-than-every-newspaper-magazine-and-rad.html

The second story this week deals with the change going on with jobs in America.

Recently, I saw that future job prospects providing a decent salary, which translates to a decent living, falling into two categories … medicine and technology.

It is about technology that the story from the New York Times is written. Particularly the need for Tech giants to hire qualified people who may not have a college education. To date, two-thirds of Americans do not have a four-year degree. So how do the majority find gainful employment?

Something a new group of job creators, teaming with Tech leaders like IBM has done is provide training in certain tech skills useful in the Tech world.

The Times story includes names and links to these creators along with case studies and is worth the relatively short read.

The point is this … parents, your kids need training to live and work in the new work-world. Even more important, those who start now are the ones who get the advantage in the long run. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/28/technology/tech-jobs-skills-college-degree.html
