Hi-ya Folks! Here are a few things I came across on the Web …
This week I’ve been watching some of the feeds on Periscope, the Twitter broadcast tool, on my iPad. It’s interesting some of the things you come across like TV news people setting it up on their news desk allowing the viewer to watch what goes on behind the scenes during their live newscast, or a young professional taking a coffee break and answering questions about his or her field of expertise. What is also interesting are the feeds people write to them while they broadcast. Many are from people in other countries shouting out a hello from such places as Italy and Brazil. Just downloaded the Periscope app and used your Twitter login to access it. If you don’t have a Twitter account, it’s free … just like the Periscope app. https://www.periscope.tv/
Watching all the other country’s residents on Periscope reminds me about a website I came across this week which teaches different languages by reading. Called Readlang, the site provides a means to read in other languages while providing the language you are familiar with as its means of translation. Simply open an extension, click to translate, and use the practice flash cards. Select from the country’s flag the language you want to learn and get started. http://readlang.com/
Speaking about the iPad, and tablets in general … this week’s issue of iTab includes articles about iPads and Android tablets and new things you can do with them … Read for yourself. http://iTab.jimonline.com
Diply.com is a sharing platform dedicated to connecting you with the things you love to see online. Sometimes it’s a video based on a news story. Most often, it’s a compilation of tips and tricks that make your life easier with DIY Home Design, Crafts, Food, Photography and the like. I came across a how-to article providing 25 cleaning tricks and from that, learned about this website that bears going to from time to time to see what they have collected.
Finally, a good news story for a man needing money to pay for a kidney transplant. Justin Griner was in need and his wife, Laney using the GoFundMe crowdsource, campaigned to raise the money. Using their son’s picture (Sam – adorable) the fund raised more than the needed amount of $75,000. Check out the story and don’t miss the photo … http://www.theverge.com/2015/4/17/8439483/success-kid-father-kidney-transplant-crowdfunding
WebLetter is the companion magazine with additional stories … http://web.jimonline.com
Hospital regulations require a wheel chair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he didn’t need my help to leave the hospital.
After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator.
On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.
‘I don’t know,’ he said. ‘She’s still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.’
A man and wife were making our way back to their car in the packed shopping-center parking lot. As they squeezed between cars, the husband pointed to a couple of baby car seats strapped in the backseat of one.
“Look, dear,” he exclaimed, “this one comes with duel exhaustion!”
Have a great weekend friends, may God bless you and keep you safe.
