Jim’s WebLetter for 7/29/17

Hi-ya Gmailers and friends!

Have you ever sent an email to the wrong person or forgot to proofread it before hitting that send button? Embarrassing!

There are two rules when it comes to emailing … Always proofread and never send an email when you’re upset.

I have gotten emails from people I don’t know telling me about my promotion within a company I’ve never heard of. Or that the sale of my property went through, even though I have never owned property in Cornshucker, Iowa or Oceanview, Colorado. (Neither place exits, but you get what I mean).

The point is, mistakes are made when sending emails and Google realized it and did something in Gmail to undo it. Matter of fact, there’s an Undo button in Gmail, and I’m going to show you how to use it.

If you’re in your Gmail Inbox, go to the top right corner of the screen and hit the Gear button.

Hit Settings and scroll down until you see Undo Send. There, you can check the box that says Enable Undo Send. You can also choose how long you want the cancellation period: 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds. The longer you choose, the longer you’ll have to decide if you want to unsend an email after you’ve pressed the Send button.

Make sure you scroll down some more from your selection and hit Save when you’re finished. Once you’ve done this, you’ll start seeing an Undo option at the top of your Inbox after you’ve sent an email.

If you want to unsend an email, quickly hit Undo, and your email won’t be sent. Once you’ve done that one time, you’ll get the feeling of security knowing you can control your electronic mails.

Now if people can just figure out WHICH email to send to. Nope, I have never worked for any real estate office in North Dakota, and I’ve never lived in Summer Beach, Alaska.
