Another week has passed and more news comes out of the Tech world …
This week it was announced that Google bought the company known for supplying online broadcasting to such clients as NBCUniversal and Fox Sports. Anvato has the technology designed to make it easy for broadcasters to put live video online. The system is currently used by plenty of brand-name firms to stream online video, edit video clips in the cloud and handle pay-per-view transactions. The Super Bowl was streamed using Anvato’s software, which with their employees will now join Google’s cloud platform team, enabling other firms to benefit from what’s being called “scalable media processing and workflows in the cloud.” Other TV companies using Anvato include HGTV, TNT, The Food Channel and The Travel Channel.
This is great news for online viewing as it seems all the major tech players are ramping up … Twitter with Periscope, Facebook with it’s own Live Video and Google with YouTube and Anvato supplying the heavy lifting. Have I left out anyone? http://www.anvato.com/
On Wednesday, Facebook announced a major step in the direction of providing internet access to remote areas of the world. An open source, wireless platform called OpenCellular is a software and a hardware platform that supports a variety of wireless networking standards — 2G, LTE and Wi-Fi included. It’s modular, simple to install and sturdy enough to operate in extreme weather conditions.
This summer, Facebook will be modifying the existing open source operating system. It’s currently undergoing testing in Facebook’s headquarters, all the while the company is working with partners to make OpenCellular widely available.
“We designed OpenCellular as an open system so anyone — from telecom operators to researchers to entrepreneurs — can build and operate wireless networks in remote places. Cyber-Monday-in-July, known as Amazon Prime Day is this Monday, promising extra savings over and above the company’s usual discount prices. Amazon Prime is, of course, the subscription service that provides unlimited two-day shipping, movie and music streaming and various other perks at $99 per year.

The Amazon App, available in the Amazon store, Apple Store and Google Play store, lets you track upcoming deals and receive notifications when they’re about to begin.
