Yes, it’s another weekend and a look into the computer screen which reveals people looking back, particularly if you’re using Twitter. That’s right, Twitter now offers live video streaming through the use of it’s program Periscope. Just prepare to compose a new tweet on your Apple or Android mobile device, and click the camera icon to add a photo, a video or go live using Periscope. If you don’t have it installed already, you will be prompted to download it.
So why do you want to use Periscope, the video app? Because the trend is to move away from texting and emailing and move to something more immediate, more personal. Live Video. The fascination with video actually began with what has become the largest repository for video content – YouTube. Now you can stream live broadcasts on YouTube using a camera plugged into a computer. Facebook, with more than 1.65 billion users, now offers live streaming. As you see, clearly more tech companies are offering live video as a means for anyone to communicate with friends and viewers around the world.
Speaking in a recent conference in London, Nicola Mendelsohn, vice president of operations for Facebook in Europe, the Middle East and Africa said there will a radical shift in the way we tell stories and converse with others. I came across a good story about using live video on Facebook for business. Companies need to rethink their method of reaching out to the client and the customer by using more than the standard ways of advertising. Advertising can now take on a more immediate approach with a spokesman delivering messages that encourage the customer to purchase their product or service. Just think: what would you remember more? On a final note, this weekend marks two important occasions in my life. Friday, my wife and I celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary. To look at us you wouldn’t believe we look that old. We’re not … We married young and decided to stay that way! And this Sunday is Father’s Day.
